Randy Soderberg
July 10th, 1984
Randy was the funny friend – always joking around and being comical. He loved classic cars and cruising. Randy was 22 years young, he married and had a beautiful two year old daughter. In July of 1984, Randy went missing – his disappearance was completely out of character. A man was seen driving around in his car all over town days after he disappeared. Randy’s wife was left with no answers and little support. Three different times she confronted the stranger who she saw driving their only vehicle demanding to know where her husband was. Twenty years later in 2004, The man confessed to murdering three people, one of which being Randy. He said he killed Randy because he reminded him of his father.
Randy’s wife has been receiving support from Families and Friends for years. We have attended many hearings with her including the final sentencing where we assisted her and many of her family members with victim impact statements. We did a candlelight vigil in Randy’s honor, assisted with his long-overdue funeral, helped with media intervention and have given ongoing support since the case was resolved. Melanie decided she wanted to give back to our organization and is now a volunteer!
